TOO SAD TO BE
Sculpture, 2016
A large-scale, slightly curved MDF panel leans against the wall, with the phrase »too sad to be« cut out of its surface. Rendered in the artist's own handwriting and backlit by LEDs, the lettering lends the piece an intimacy at odds with its monumental scale. Resembling an oversized sheet of white paper, the panel appears both as a personal note and a public statement. The lettering expresses a desire to communicate, yet its incomplete message also points to something that resists clear articulation.
