Elsewhere, Nowhere, Here
Public Art, 2021
The two sentences "Elsewhere is nowhere but here" and "Here is always somewhere else" are typographically arranged on the former glass displays of the Schauspielhaus Erfurt.
The sentences come from my research on right-wing violence. Often these acts are classified by the political organs as individual acts. In media portrayals, voices are mostly heard articulating their astonishment that a right-wing act could happen in the neighborhood. At the same time, places and regions are stigmatized as right-wing 'areas'. In both strategies, an externalization of structural violence takes place.
In the intervention in public space, the two sentences take up this externalization and de-localization and refer to the necessity of a structural observation and a reflection of one's own actions and surroundings.
