NTM-Island

Site-specific festival centre, 2023

The central location of the 22nd International Schillertage is the festival centre "NTM-Island" in the former Benjamin Franklin Village (BFV). Until 2011, the BFV was one of the largest US Army bases in Germany. Around 10,000 American soldiers lived and worked here and built up an entire urban infrastructure on this site from the post-war period onwards. The Leipzig artists' collective Situation Room (Sven Bergelt and Kai-Hendrik Windeler) has designed a site that refers to the former Benjamin Franklin Village as a city within the city and is now being redeveloped as a conversion area.
